Just like dog and cat rescue groups, horses have their advocates, too. With the cost of maintaining a horse running upwards of $5000 per year, a horse lover's passion may outlast their wallet.

A family in Morristown, Tennessee is crediting their Labrador retriever, Scout, with alerting them to an early morning house fire, according to a story published in the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Scout protected his family-- including a disabled veteran recently returned from Afghanistan-- by waking them up and at 3 a.m. by barking and pawing at the floor.
